Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's attempts at popularity in the mainstream were unsuccessful. Before new material could be released the two major labels signed, then were able to drop Perry. However, in 2007, Capitol Records put out Perry's EP Ur So Gay which attracted little attention due to its jolly humorous title track. I Kissed a Girl - an ode of sexual curiosity - was dropped a couple of months after. It featured a hard electro-pop style and an assertive stance. It quickly sparked debate as some critics accused the song for encouraging sexual relations between gays and lesbians as well as others argued that the explicit scenario it depicted catered to the fantasies of males about sexuality among females. Nevertheless the combination of sensuality and polished music made I Kissed a Girl become a number one hit across multiple countries, generating the sales of her album One of the Boys (2008). Hot N Cold's sharp and bouncy second single was also extremely popular. The album Perry wrote in large part sold more than three million copies.
